The iJoomla Search & Archive extension brings a new level of search to your site. Compare the regular Joomla search page with the iJoomla search page. Not only do users receive more options on the search page itself, but they also get more in the search results.
With iJoomla Search & Archive, you can fully control your search results, from the elements to include (such as date, author, category, etc.) to the color of the background.
You can even show a thumbnail of the article, automatically generated from your content item's images, include the article's word count, allow linking to more articles from the same section/category/author, etc. and a whole lot more. It's like Search on steroids.
Any keyword entered into the search box will appear highlighted in the search results. Multiple keywords will appear in different colors (up to a maximum of ten, after which the colors will repeat.) Highlight color is customizable on the backend, by selecting the "Color" tab and choosing the background color and text color for the first, second, third etc. keywords.
iJoomla Search & Archive is completely compatible with JoomFish. Install a language in your language manager and when your visitors select that language from the drop down menu on the front end, both the archive and the search page will be displayed in that language.
iJoomla Search & Archive includes a free search module which is very similar to the core Joomla search module. Our module however generates results from the iJoomla Search & Archive component and therefore offers additional features. What are the different zones in the archive?
We've divided the archive page into different areas and called each area a "zone." These zones can be used to display sections/categories, authors, and a whole lot more. Not only can you choose which zone to display, you can also set their layout and redefine their order. It's completely flexible. So if all the articles on your site are written by the same person, for example, you'd probably want to leave out the Author Zone. However, if you have many contributors, you could use the zone to link to all the articles by each author and indicate the number of many articles written by each of them.
Can I choose which search fields to show on the search page?
Yes, you can choose to show or hide any of the search fields you want.
Do you have a manual?
No, we didn't feel you'd need it. It's such a straightforward extension
and every field on the backend has an info icon next to it with an
explanation. It's pretty tough to get lost with this one.
I have some sections and categories that I don't want visitors to search
You can easily choose which sections and categories to search. Just un-publish the sections/categories you don't want your visitors to search.
I'd like to show only archived items on the archive page. Is that possible?
Yes. Just change the settings on the archive tab on the backend.
How are the archive page and search results styled?
On the whole, we've used style classes that already exist on your
template's css file, so the style should be consistent with the rest of
the site. However, you can enter any existing class name for each
element on the style tab. On some elements, we've allowed you to set
your own style: for example, on the background and border of search
result items.
How are the article thumbnails generated?
The thumbnails are automatically generated from your article images. If
you placed an image on the article's image tab, iJoomla Search will use
the first image it finds there to generate a thumbnail. If there's no
image in the image tab, it will use the first image in the intro text.
And if there's no image there, it will take the first image it finds in
the full text of the article.
All thumbnails generated are real thumbnails and not a resized version of the same file. It makes the page a lot faster to load.
Does the search include the forum or mosets tree?
Not at this point. The extension will only search in content items: static, dynamic, live or archived.
Can I change the colors of the keywords on search results?
Yes, you can control the color of text and the background of ten keywords, just like Google's cache feature. Go wild.
How do I access the search page?
By simply creating a menu item that links to the iJoomla Search &
Archive component. Search and you'll be taken to the search page.
How do I access the archive page?
Login to the admin backend, go to iJoomla Search and Archive and click
on the archive icon. Copy the URL that appears on the tab and create a
new menu item that links to this URL. You can omit the beginning of the
URL (http://www.yourdomain.com) if you want to move this site to your
production site.
Under what license did you release the iJoomla Search & Archive extension?
iJoomla Search & Archive was released under a commercial license.
Our extensions are not derivative works, so they don't have to be
released under the GPL license. The only exception is the search module
which is released under GPL alone.
Can I use iJoomla Search & Archive on more than one domain?
No, but you can install iJoomla Search & Archive on one domain and on any sub domains or sub directories.
