SEO Joomla Overview Video:
Of course, you already know that SEO is important. You also know that SEO isn’t easy. But it’s particularly difficult for Joomla publishers:
- Because the title metatag is automatically determined by the article title, many of your title tags could be missing important keywords.
- Editing article metatags has to be done individually. You have to open the article, edit the tags, close the article… and repeat for each article on your site. Even for medium-sized sites, that’s a painstaking process that could take weeks.
- The article titles are not search-engine friendly. Instead of using h2 or h2 to mark out titles, Joomla uses an obscure class called “contentheading” or on component pages “componentheading.” Nice for Joomla, bad for SEO.
Joomla certainly doesn’t make SEO easy and it certainly doesn’t make it fun. iJoomla SEO makes putting your site in front of searchers much, much simpler. Joomla 1.5 SEO has never been more easy and more fun!

FAQ
Why do I need iJoomla SEO? Doesn’t Joomla already handle SEO?Joomla's SEO capabilities are limited and slow. For example, Joomla doesn’t allow publishers to assign a title metatag to an article. Instead, article titles are used automatically as the title metatag even though the title of the article rarely contains keywords. iJoomla SEO allows you to assign a title metatag for each article, so that you can optimize keywords and phrases. |
Just how much time can iJoomla SEO save me?Watch our videos. As you will be able to see, iJoomla SEO managed to save 95 percent of the time that would have been spent doing SEO. Feel free to use our demo site and see it for yourself. Doing SEO the old fashioned way can take days. Those are days that could be better spent growing your site. |
Are metatags really important? I’ve heard SEO experts say they are not that influential any more. Keywords and descriptions metatags are not as important as they used to be for some search engines. But the title metatag is still considered by experts to be the most important element for SEO, and the description metatags are used to create the snippet that appears on the search engine search results. Even if it doesn’t affect your search engine results, it can certainly affect your clickthrough rate. |
Why should I replace the Joomla classes with HTML headings?Google (and other search engines) rely on page headings to determine what’s important on the page. If your article title has an obscure class such as “contentheading,” Google won’t consider it important. Replace this class or add a heading tag to it, such as H1, and Google will make sense of your page and rank you higher. |
Will installing iJoomla SEO damage my current SEO?No. If you’ve already added descriptions and keywords metatags, you will see them in the Metatag Manager. You can then choose to keep them or modify them. To auto-generate metatags without affecting your current tags, simply select only the articles you want to modify. |
Will I lose all my SEO if I uninstall iJoomla SEO?No. The keywords and description metatags you’ve created in the individual articles will appear on the right of the article but you will not see the title metatags. These are only displayed in iJoomla SEO plugin. |
Will I lose all my information if I need to upgrade iJoomla SEO?No, but it’s still good practice create a backup of your database first. |
Can I use iJoomla SEO on more than one domain?iJoomla SEO’s license allows you to generate a package for a live domain and a development domain. To use iJoomla SEO on other domains though, will require additional licenses. These are available at a 20 percent discount. |
Does iJoomla SEO work with Joomla 1.0?No. But you can download our iJoomla MetaTags Generator for free here. It’s not as comprehensive but it does have some of iJoomla SEO’s features. |
I never bothered to add alt metatags to my images. Can iJoomla SEO help me?Sure. iJoomla SEO will automatically create an alt and title tag to your images from the keywords of the page. This is a super-fast way to make sure you’re compliant and optimized for search engines. |
What should I enter in my title metatag?Your title metatag should be concise, descriptive and unique to each page. Write no more than ten words and make sure that it reflects the page’s content accurately. Tips for writing effective title tags: Each title should include at least two important and relevant keywords. Avoid repeating keywords, and place your most important keyword near the beginning of the title. If you think prospective customers would search for Ming vases to find your store, for example, use that phrase in your home page title: “Ming Vases and Chinese Porcelain. Avoid generic terms like “food” and “cars.” Instead, use targeted, relevant terms such as “Rich tea biscuits” or “Porsche 914”. Unless your business name is immediately recognizable to prospective customers, don't include it in your title tags. Use your titles to entice searchers and visitors who don't yet know your business but may be interested in the products or services you offer. Don't use all capital letters or special characters. |
How should I write my keywords?Choosing the right keywords is the first step to a better search engine ranking. Here’s how you do it: Remember the basics. Enter your keywords in order of importance, separated by commas, and be sure to use keywords that actually appear in your page. Avoid repeating keywords and keep the list to fewer than 256 characters. Be specific. Use general terms and you’ll struggle to be noticed. Include “clothes” as your keyword, for example, and you'll be competing with thousands of other sites. Write “men’s pinstripe suits” or “children’s soccer boots” and you’ll find it much easier to achieve a high ranking for those terms. Include variations. People will search for your site using all sorts of search terms, including plurals, misspellings, and synonyms. Be sure to consider variations when choosing your keywords. Use only relevant keywords. Don't stuff your metatags with keywords that don't relate to your page's content. Search engines hate spammers and may downgrade your page ranking. Think about your audience. Which terms would your customers use to find your site? If you're not sure, ask your friends, family, and coworkers for ideas. Look at your competition. If you're having trouble thinking of search terms, look at competitors' sites. Which keywords are they using? Do they include terms you're missing? To review a page's keywords, select Source or Page Source from your browser's View menu. The page's title, description, and keyword tags will generally appear near the top of the page's HTML code. Once you choose your keywords, be sure to include them in your page content as well as in your metatags! |
How should I write my page description? The description metatag summarizes page content and may encourage clicks in search results. Some search engines use the description to help categorize pages, but more importantly, the pages description may also appear in search results. A clear and persuasive description then may not boost your search engine ranking, but it could encourage prospective customers to visit your site. It’s important then that your description metatag is readable and interesting, no longer than 256 characters, and also features one or two keywords that appear on the page, preferably placed near the beginning of the description. If you’re struggling to think of a description, try using the first sentence or two from your page. iJoomla SEO does this automatically. |
Does iJoomla SEO generates SEF URLs?No, but these extensions will do that for you: SEF Advanced Sh404SEF Core Joomla |
What is Google Page Rank and how does it work?PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages' relative importance. For more information click {ijoomla_redirect id=250}. |
What is the nofollow tag?nofollow is a non-standard HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. Using nofollow tag will prevent your site from bleeding Google PageRank. |
What format should the Mambot code be in?There are two ways that you can add a Redirect using either of the following code: #redirect# #redirect2# *The second method will override the Link Text set from within the component. For the most part, the first method should be sufficient. You can also use a URL that you can copy from the iJoomla Redirect backend. This URL looks like this: index.php?option=com_ijoomla_redirect&id=1 |
Where are the translations for the other languages? The component supports this type of functionality, but we do not have any other translations yet. If you are interested in translating a language file, please contact us here. |

As we have experienced with several web sites, iJoomla SEO will save a considerable amount of time when optimizing a site for search engines."

"Back in March I was able to test iJoomla.com's new SEO component called, somewhat appropriately: iJoomla SEO. It didn't impress me much. You weren't able to add metadata to menu links or third-party extensions which meant that the homepage and many key sites pages were missed.
