While many people build Joomla sites simply to provide information, it's certainly possible to make money out of them, and plenty of people do it. With the right ad program, or mixture of ad programs, there's no reason why your content can't be turned quickly into cash.
When you're considering putting an ad program on a Joomla site, you've got a range of options.
Banners are the old Internet stand-by. Joomla makes it a breeze to
incorporate your banners into your layout so that they're always placed
where users can see them. But that doesn't mean they won't ignore them.
Banners aren't the most effective of ad programs and unless they're
well-chosen are often seen by users as page clutter.
A better bet then is AdSense, Google's ad program that matches
classified-style ads with the subject of your content. You can use this
ad program in the body of your text or in a SideBar, but the most
effective strategy is always to blend the ads into the page. Here at

Other sound options for ad programs include Chitika and Kontera, as
well as Amazon's affiliate program, but if you're looking for something
unusual, you might try KingPixels. It will let you create pixel ads
