Every single day sees me start out with the same target. Show some more people the content in my news portal.
But as any hard-nosed SEO campaigner will tell you, it never gets any easier.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I sat late into the night looking for a spark of inspiration - something which would make tomorrow's effort a little it easier - that bit more effective!
A few days ago I came across a component which, just like every other I've read about, offers to serve a purpose on your website, and which its hoped, will bring you millions of web viewers.
Whether the developers notes say that is another thing, but thats what we would like right?
To date it hasn't actually brought lots of numbers to my daily access stats but its early days and I'm very optimistic about this.
So what does this fantastic extension bring to your website?
It brings live, streaming video, very easily and quickly, allowing you to have 1, 4, or as many video clips as you would like, all in a single article.
I've been having a play around just to try it out and I've found no bugs, no glitch's and most important of all it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Once I had downloaded the extension it was simply a case of installing it as you would any other (using the joomla default installer), and with the component installed its just a case of publishing it as there is nothing at all to configure so in my book it gets 10 out of 10 in the OOBE department.
To display video using this component is a cake-walk and used correctly this could make the difference to a news portal which maybe isn't performing as it should with a bit of a push out in the networks.
This component will only display video from youtube and google video at this time, but the application and ease of use is the big deal for me.
With the plug in installed you simply add a tag, (similar to "{mosimage}") and away you go;
To display a youtube video the syntax of the tag reads as follows;
[youtube:your-youtube-address-here]
To show google vids the tag reads thus;
[googlevideo:your-video-URL-here]
Its easy as that.
In use your tag will look like
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM]
Got ten minutes spare? Watch the vid for the most tense piece of natural history footage I have ever seen. I hope you agree.
The extension? Its called "Simple You Tube plug in" for mambo, and its written by a gentleman called Paul Bain in the UK.
Bring new life to your news portal with live video clips.
Enjoy! |

Would of been nice to have your site URL to see what you are saying.
I notice you did not mention how much more resources it cause on your main page or sql query.
As you know if you turn SEO friendly url query jump by another 40% slowing your site.
news if you have more than 1 or 2 section can bring like on my site dndtalk.ca
over 200 query mind you new version 21 drop this by 5 % However still had to turn SEF off.
As I use youtube service using link instead of direct video drop my query on main page from 179 to 53 query.

Hi Pierre..how are you?
The address is immaterial or so I thought. The address to the video I refered to (you tube address) was included so you could view the file.
The tag is just a link therefore it has little or no bearing on SQL queries.
It was more a personal recommend as opposed to an explicit instruction to use it. I thought it was a good extension and I figured a few would like to know about it.
Perhaps a forum where people could discuss other extensions may be a timely suggestion?
Good luck |
