I'm moving my site to a new host. I downloaded the proper Magazine component.
I cannot install the new component. After deleting the magazine component, I get this when I try to install the new component:
Failed to move uploaded file to /media directory.
Any help? _________________ GK

Hi,
we have many reports of this.
It seems to be permissions related on each server and each time the cause is different.
It can be as much as the group or owner of the media directory or Safe mode being turned on, or one of a number of other causes.
To find if its group or owner problem related, install joomla explorer.
If you can install it, then, jus ttry to install the component again.
i've seen on several occasions, users report this problem and I simply login witht he Superadmin account that they give me and it installs fine.
So, try another Superadmin account and see if that gets around the problem.
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the component itself, as its Joomla that uses the media directory as a temporary upload directory.
The process for installing a component is as follows:
User clicks upload and install,
the file is uploaded to the media directory.
the fiel is then unpacked to the /administrator/components/com_install/components directory.
the temp file in the media directory is then deleted
the installer process then poarses the XML file and executes the installer php file for that particular component.
when the install is finished, the installer cleans the directory by deleting allthe files (except its own) in the /administrator/components/com_install/components directory. |

Its an annoying problem. I suspect that your server has the upload_max_filesize at 2mb. This will cause you to get that /media upload error. I attempted to alter the configuration.php file with an ini_set...however it didnt work.
What did work was altering your .htaccess and adding this:
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M |
