Hi, I created another thread since what I suggest is different form what hgr suggested.

I suggest to give the opportunity to manage also 'fake' authors.

I mean: in many situations a magazine 'manager' may want to add articles written by specific authors but don't want them to be real joomla authors (nor users), this mainly happens when the magazine already exists (paper for example) and the authors just send their articles in other ways (not related to the web).

I know that the manager may create authors not giving real persons the credendtials, but if this thing could be manage without the need to create joomla users, would be easier.

    Thanks

I'd just like to add to that: I'm currently trying to add almost 10 years of back issues' to a client's site. In order to use the "author" mechanism in the magazine component, I first have to create all of the authors as users, and in order to do so, they need to have an email -- which most of them of course don't. If the authors table for the magazine had the link to the core joomla user table be optional, it would be a simple matter of script-loading the magazine user table with a data dump.

Actually, an option to use the magazine control panel to import data such as authors and articles (with the necessary content entries generated on the fly) would be wonderful.
