Post subject: image upload from local folder

I would really appreciate being able to upload images from my local folder instead of navigating to the joomla images folder.
i sell digital goods
i usually upload one product at a time and i need to see the image. uploading to the joomla folder then going back to the store and going through the whole routine is time consuming and sometimes confusing.
thanks for a great product

I fully agree with Lisa. I am facing the same difficulty (selling digital products too).
As we already know, the download file is uploaded from my computer and the component takes care of it. Easy!
It would so much better if DigiStore would do the same with images: uploading them from desktop, also placing them in the same folder containing the download file, then retrieving them from there for display in the product page.
Now, for each downloadable product, I need to keep the corresponding image in Joomla images folder, mixed with many other ones . For consistency, then I must find a relevant name just to be certain the image is properly associated (in my mind) with the corresponding dowload file (by name, ID, etc.). When the number of products increases, things become significantly more complex and chanses are that I might erase or update/replace the wrong image for a certain product.
I would really like to have this feature implemented in your next release, at least as an upload option: click once for uploading the downloadable file and once again for the image, then just forget about it.
iJoomla, with this component you've done a great job so far. In the future, if you could make it run in J!1.5 at least in legacy mode that would be even better. We appreciate your hard work for making DigiStore look simple to us.

here is what i do and it is quite smooth once i am set up.
I have an ftp program. i have that open to my local folder.
on joomla in the stories i made a store.logo (or whatever) file, so they are separate from all of the other images.
then i upload the image to the folder, put in the info in digistore, then upload files from my compute and image from the folder that corresponds.
set up takes a bit go get everything where i want but once i am rolling it works fairly smooth.
I am happy with digistore and i am very glad i made the move.

Thanks, Lisa. My routine is similar to yours, with a small addition.
I sell designs.
1) Under stories I create a folder called designs for example. Here I am going to keep all the images for my products. I set the FTP program to open to this folder. by default
joomla/images/stories/designs/
2) I create a new product and upload the downloadable file. DigiStore takes care of the rest.
/www.yoursite.com/administrator/components/com_digistor e/upload/15/original/file.zip
3) I press Apply button. This allows me to see the database ID which was assigned to my product. Let's assume the ID returned is 15, as it appears in the General tab of my product.
4) Inside designs folder I create another folder called 15 or 15_design_abcd.
joomla/images/stories/designs/15_design_abcd
5) With the FTP program I load the two images (thumbnail and pop-up/large) in the subfolder 15.
joomla/images/stories/designs/15_design_abcd/image_a (thumbnail)
joomla/images/stories/designs/15_design_abcd/image_b (pop-up/large)
6) Get back to the product and in the Images tab I point to the subfolder 15 then choose the two images. Continue the settings in the remaining tabs (Pricing, Product Email, etc) and Save
For each new product I repeat steps 2 to 6.
I believe it's a good idea using the ID number of the product for naming the folder with corresponding images. The ID never changes even if you need to rename the product or change its category. It would be probably even better if the name of the folder containing the two images would start with the ID followed by a meaningful title, e.g. 15_design_abcd.
It works fine but with iJoomla's support we could achieve this with only one click as we already do when uploading files. |
