Post subject: Does any one have an iJoomla Template?
|
|
|
I'm stuck. Does anyone have an iJoomla template they would like to share? Just to get me going! It doesn't have to be as good as some of the 'top sites', just something that I can play with and learn from.
I am sure that I am not the only one who would welcome this _________________ All the best

| Yes I am aware of that. I suppose what I am thinking of is a template that already includes an iJoomla Magazine, with dummy text instead of articles. |

This statement or marketing stuff is not so appealing after the download and frustration of finding out what's in the package and what's missing that I thought I would be getting to create a site in minutes as suggested.
=================================
iJoomla Magazine Component Version 1.1.2
This is the second release version of the iJoomla Magazine Component. This package allows you to publish an e-Magazine in minutes!
=================================
allows you to publish an e_magazine in minutes?
I think not. At least not as the package sits at this stage.
I am rather disappointed with this purchase. There is no template or adequate documentation to create such a site as shown on this site ( as in the top site examples) and a provided template would have amde things so much easier, instead of having to hack around blind;y for hours in total frustration trying a get anything to publish, let alone what you suggest.
The images are easy to create, but your documentation on how to create a front page site as I have viewed and got excited about enough to buy this ezine sucks. Your documentation is so sparse and not intuitive at all, it just causes total frustration.
I am no novice to using software. I have developed many award winning software design tool products from 1988 to 2000 and always made sure that the basic user could create something up and running right away, that is satisfying to them that they made the right decision.
A Geting Started Tutorial (proper tutorial and not a lame one given) woudl enable a purchaser to get started with a tutorial Magazine, and you don't even have that. It's all guessing based on such sparse documentation. Perhaps you should not assume that everyone knows what you know. Assume they are total novices and you won't get posts like this.
I suggest better documentation with a true step by step example site tutorial and a sample Magazine template as suggested by others, then people like me would not be angered and frustrated, but instead would be happy with paying for something. I thought I was going to purchase this after setting up my domain and the Joomla install which was the eays part, and then much to my frutration, I am screwing around with a half backed piece of product that makes a ton of assumtions.
Had I known that the basic Magazine template was not included I would not have purchased this at all and would have waited until something worthwhile was.
Very dissappointed.

RandyMac,
I am sorry you feel that way and:
A. I would love to give you a refund if you are so unhappy
B. We state clearly that we don't provide a template with the component. You can see it here:
http://www.ijoomla.com/Joomla_Magazine/FAQ/Does_iJoomla _Magazine_comes_with_templates?/
We don't because:
1. Templates are not our business and we would hate to provide a template that is not good enough because of lack of experience on our end to create a good template.
2. Different people like different templates. We can't make everybody happy with one or even 3 templates.
3. You'd still have to create your magazine, and this is something we can't do for you.
4. There is no need for a template because our component works with every template
We DO explain how we created the demo sites, you can see it here:
http://www.ijoomla.com/mtree/Demo_Magazines/
It has the name of the template, were you can get it, which modules were used etc.
C. Creating the manual took us longer than expected because our technical writer is very sick and he is in the hospital. Yesterday we released our manual and it is available to download on our FREE DOWNLOADS page.
D. If you are having questions why don't you just ask? We helped hundreds of users with thousands of questions. We respond to almost every question within 24 hours.
You can ask any question and we will gladly help you, that's why we're here.

RandyMac;
There were a few things about the iJoomla that also confused me at first. I was expecting this to run more like a piece of Joomla, which is where I made my mistake. Once I recognized the logic flow in the Mag component, it suddenly made more sense. There are certainly a few things that I would improve on or change outright, but for a first run component I have to say this does a great job. |

Post subject: Dont Give Up

Hey Randy Mac,
Dont give up so quickly mate. I am by no means an experienced Joomla or Mambo web creator, but it did not take me long to get the basics of a mag up and running.
I splashed out a few bucks and got the akoIndustry template, as I liked the look of it. (just like the dating demo site)
I followed the tutorial, and downloaded a few images, and used an image program to crop to required sizes (per info sheet with demo sites) and hey presto a mag site.
It works a treat. There are always a few things that need tweaking for the next edition, but this version works fine for me.
And literally, after I have compiled my content and images, it does only take a few minutes to publish.
Hope I can change your mind...
Tony |
