Post subject: Is ijoomla right for a weekly?
|
|
|
Ok so I've been playing with this for a little while now and would like to know about other people's experiences with a large magazine.
Simply put - We currently publish a weekly with over 60 articles per week. Is this the right tool to use?
I ask because it certainly seems possible, but a bigger hassle than what we have been using (props). I just can't seem to get a handle on how this might work out.
Is there anyone out there who has tried to implement the joomla/ijoomla mag solution for a busy magazine?
Any input would be appreciated. |

It is possible to do with some planning. First, make sure you create a category on Joomla for each issue. Then enter all your articles for this issue on this category. Then use the content wizard and filter by the category you've created. Now you will be able to add 10 articles at a time. That means you will have to add articles 1-10 and then 11-20, 21-30 etc. This whole process shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
60 articles on the issue home page is quite a lot so you should have most of them without images if you want to keep the page light. I suggest you have a main image for the cover article and then 3 vertical items and 3 horizontal items with images, the rest of the articles make them horizontal without images.
As we go we will be adding more functionality for large magazines such as yours.
I hope this helps, if you have any further questions, let me know. _________________ Merav

I'm about to use iJoomla to do the website of a weekly newspaper (that had nothing before this... no website!) and your suggestion will allow me to publish every story from the print version without driving me batty doing it one at a time.
I'm going to be using Bloggx (for the original poster... I've found this makes input of stories faster) and I will just need to follow your awesome suggestion on streamlining for the content wizard.
I am so happy with the magazine component so far, I can't even express it enough. |

Already did ... of course that was before I had my @%(&@^ ad spot problem, hehehe.
I did have great result with support overnight though on another issue and I continue to be more and more pleased with the component. |

Post subject: Newspaper Site
|

Hi
I use ijoomla on a large newspaper site. We publish over 100 articles every week, no problems with version 1. We installed version 2 and had tons of drama. (but it was a beta edition and we were told to not use it on a live site so,,our problem. I would recommend ijoomla as ideal for publishing a newspaper site and look forward to using version 2 as it will speed up the process even more
(I see on another post that version 2 is now stable to use...yahooo)

Looks great!
Most of the drama of version 2 is because of ionCube, we hope to have a better solution soon. _________________ Merav
