Post subject: Wrong focus on top menu items when iJoomla Mag page selected
|
|
|
| On our website www.perrycountytennessee.com we have a top menu. If you select an item that is an iJoomla magazine page, the focus appears on another item. The correct page/content is displayed, but the menu focus is incorrect. I used a "link-url" item to place the magazines in the top menu. I am using iJoomla 2.0.16 and Joomla 1.0.10. I've checked the sort order of my mags and my menu items. Any other suggestions? Anyone run into this before? |

You shouldn't link with URL link. You should link to a component "magazine". _________________ Merav

Post subject: But I have multiple Magazines
|

I have more than one magazine. How do I designate which magazine this menu item is pointing to? I didn't know how else to do this except to use a URL link.
I really appreciate the nudge in the right direction! |

On general settings you can choose the default magazine on on each magazines' general tab you can choose the default issue. _________________ Merav

I did set the default issue for each magazine. When setting up the mainmenu, there is an option Link-Component, but the only selection is Magazine, not a specific magazine. So it defaults to the General Settings default magazine, which is already my homepage/frontpage.
I don't see a way to designate a specific magazine in the mainmenu settings, unless you can use the Params field. And I don't know what to put in there to set that there.
I just opened a trouble ticket on this because I am really stymied on this. |

I opened a trouble ticket on this topic two days ago, and haven't heard anything from iJoomla staff. All I want to know is if it is possible to have buttons in the mainmenu to multiple magazines in my mainmenu. Everything that has been suggested won't work -- it appears you are only able to show multiple magazines using the module "Magazines" which is not what I want to do. When I used the Link-URL, the focus is on the wrong item in the mainmenu.
Help! Please! Please put me out of my misery and shoot me... tell me it can't be done, or that it can be done and how.
Thanks!

Hi,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, I am out of the office and I don't always have interenet connection.
To your question, there is no way to link the menu item to a list of magazines by choosing "component" on the menu wizard. You can only do that if you use link to URL and then you have to add a content item with mosload position tag, to display the magazines module inside a content item. Does this make sense? if not, let me know I will walk you trhough this. I am also looking into why you didn't get an answer to your support ticket. _________________ Merav

Post subject: Thanks, I understand, but not quite what I needed

Hi, Merav. Thanks for the reply.
This is closer, but not quite what I wanted. This will work for one site www.buffaloriverreview.com when I substitute the News button to read Magazines, but it isn't what I need on the other site.
There is no way to make a single magazine a content item, as I see it, or to link to it... so I have to rethink my website structure in the mainmenu, the way I understand your reply.
Perhaps this would be something I should add to the wish list for future updates.
Yes?

Hi, Robroyce...
The ticket number is VDQ-179778 -- but I think Merav is already looking at it.

Post subject: Menu issue
|
|

Sam, I've got the menu part working but there is an issue with the focus showing Site Map each time you click on a link in the menu to a magazine. I set up the Magazines module so I could get the URL for each magazine I set up, and then I made a menu item that was a Link-URL for each one.
The problem is when you click on the mainmenu for each one of the magazines, the focus shows Site Map which is my last item in my mainmenu. This is not a show stopper, but it's not what I wanted. I'll post in here the solution if there is one, or not. I think the probolem is magazines are not a content item and you cannot have multiples of a Link-Component in a site.
In the meantime you can try what I suggested above. If you don't care which menu you have the mags listed in, then you can use the Magazines module and place it in the user area of your choice. |

I opened a ticket on this issue, and Merav is having development look into this, but it probably won't be till next week since this is a weekend. I will post what happens here.
Thanks, Merav, for being so responsive to this!

I haven't heard anything from folks at iJoomla on this issue since I last posted. I would really like to know if this can be fixed.
Thanks!

Pat,
I am really sorry but our developer is super busy with the next release, he is trying to meet his dead-line. I will ask him to take a look again when he has a little more time. _________________ Merav
