Post subject: Need some Advice
|
|
|
Hey everyone,
I'm new to iJoomla, I've been playing with it for the past few days and I need some advice before I finalize how I'm going to use it.
I am working on a monthly online magazine that will feature different topics each with multiple articles. Although its a montly, I dont necessarily want it to only feature the articles that are published that month, I would much rather it have the previous articles included
For example,
Issue 1 - December 2006
Topics:
Opinions: Articles: Letter from the Editor, Editorials, etc
Hot or Not: Articles: Spotlight, New Products, etc
The Truth: Articles: Modern Myths, History, etc
The Scene: Articles: New Clubs, World Scene, etc
Off Topic: Articles: Random article 1, random article 3, etc
Flavor of the Month: Food recipe, beverage recipe, etc
Things that are important to me:
1. customizable homepage
2. customizable homepage for each topic
3. Ability to keep previously written articles organizable by topic and age an easy get to
Now I have some confusion as to what I should do, create multiple magazines with multiple issues or one magazine with multiple sections. Heck I don't know, is there a better way for me to do this? I am completely open to suggestions. Each month we will be publishing approximately 20 articles to start with and we expect increase grow the number of new articles we publish each month. I have read through most all of the Tips and Tricks and Discussion form topics but have not been able to find something that cleared my confusion
If it makes a difference I really like the way askmen.com is layed out with their old articles still being listed for example check out their topic page for entertainment: http://www.askmen.com/toys/index.html |

Either one of the ways you suggested would work. Just keep in mind that adding articles using the content wizard will be easier if all articles are in the same category. However, for better organizing, you may want to create different categories:
Opinions
Hot or Not
The Truth
The Scene
Off Topic
Flavor of the Month
As for askmen.com, has a bit more advanced features that I hope we can add later on. _________________ Merav

Thanks for the reply. I decided to go the route with multiple magazines and multiple issues. For the homepage of the site I decided to create a separate Magazine called Home with a Issue called December 2006. This way I could pick and choose some articles to feature on the homepage as well as customize the homepage separately.
Now when I go my site: http://insidehookah.com/site/index.php
The Magazine "Home" comes up but under Issue menu it says "Home" again instead of the Issue - December 2006.
Basically what I'm trying to accomplish is a similar format to what you have on the sample site petpeopleonline.com. When you click home, it takes you to a certain magainze and issue which in the case of petpeople.com is
Home > Dog Magazine > Dogs - April - 2006
Under the Issues Menu, the current and previous issues show up correctly unlike my site
Any Idea of what Im doing wrong that causes this? |

Please remove the menu item you've create and then go to general settings and use the feature that allows you to set the magazine as the home page. That should solve the problem. _________________ Merav

When I delete the menu item for home, the homepage on the site became the next available menu link which is: "Advertise on Inside Hookah"
I then went to Magazine Settings > and set the magazine to be the homepage. the site still looks exactly the same and under Issues, the magazine Name appears instead of the Issue Name |

| I'm still having the same problem even after implementing your advice. Do you mind visiting Insidehookah.com to see if you notice anything wrong? Anything listed under Features are actual separate magazines, but under Issues the Home Magazine always appears... |
