Post subject: Is it right for me?

I'm in the process of setting up a reviews section for a Shakespeare website. We'll have theatre critics write reviews of performances, also DVD & book reviews. We'll also have feature articles about Shakespeare, interviews with actors, and other various stories. There won't be any magazines really (actually everything will belong to one big magazine structure-wise, I presume) and there won't be an issues either (again..one big issue for all the content). Is this feasible?
Also the theatre critics would add star ratings to their reviews for things like Acting, Sets & Costumes. Are there custom fields or is there anothe rway to do this in articles?
Thanks! |

Is this an inappropriate question to ask? If iJoomla can't do this, then I'd just like to know. I see that older postings were answered by the moderator fairly quickly but my question has been ignored for about 6 days.
Thank you. |

Hi,
Sorry I didn't see your post before. First, there are no special fields you can add. I am not sure a review site is appropriate for the magazine component. It really depends. Can you show me a site taht's similar to what you want to do so that I can tell you if it can be done? _________________ Merav

Any one of the iJoomla sample sites is a good example of what I'd like to do. Like:
http://ivegetarian.net/
http://news2.ijoomla.com/
The idea is that it's a "magazine" in every way (with interviews, articles, etc.) which doesn't come out monthly. The only added feature I haven't seen is a way to place a final rating of some kind...like a theatre review. For example, a theatre critic goes to see a play, then writes his/her review of the performance (just a normal article), including rating based on a star system (or whatever). This is the only aspect I haven't seen on any of the sites so I was curious. |

For that purpose you can use a comment component such as jomcomment, did you consider it?
FYI, news.ijoomla.com was created with the news component and not the magazine component. _________________ Merav

Thank you for your response.
I don't understand how you think a commenting component would be appropriate. JomComment (or the others) allow for user comments on an existing article (or content item), which is actually something we don't want users to be able to do. We have theatre critics who will review performances and publish them on the web site. That's it. There's no rating system or any of the features I've mentioned in JomComment.
I assumed that the second URL was done with the News component, but it was just an example of a series of "news stories" or articles similar to what I'm looking to do. |

Ok, I understand what you mean now. You want to allow users to submit articles. All users or just some?
If all, you can use the following extension:
http://www.joomlart.com/addons/components_and_modules/j a_submit_v21.html
If just authors, you can create an author account for your writers and allow them to submit news using the user menu module.
Keep in mind that you will have to add the articles to your magazine even if the users have added it. With the news portal, they will be published automatically (after you approve them).
Does this help? _________________ Merav

Right now, I have 3 theatre critics reviewing plays in different parts of the country. As I mentioned before, I don't want regular users to comment or write anything (just like a print magazine)...just those 3 people (as editors or whatever Joomla user level).
While that extension facilitates content submission, it's not ease of submission I'm looking for; it's functionality. Open up any major newspaper to the Arts/Culture section. There are reviews for performances which consist of:
Name of the play
Rating (usually in stars from 1-5)
Performance description/review
Theatre details, address, contact phone
Photos
This is what I'm looking to reproduce (more or less) in online form. I see iJoomla works like a magazine/newpaper and can handle any of these aspects, but I was mainly interested in seeing if hat some kind of rating system, or custom fields or anything like that in order to do the rating portion of the performance review.
Thanks! |

There are components that can add this functionality, try to find jreviews (I am not sure about the name). _________________ Merav
