Post subject: Joomla 1.5 and Ijoomla?
|
|

Hi there,
I have bought the ijoomla magazine component but have yet to use it with a website. I have read through all the documentation and will be starting a website soon which will utilise it.
I really like the features and flexibility of the program, but with Joomla 1.5 not too far away I am wondering what is being done with ijoomla and joomla 1.5. As I understand it 1.5 is going to be a fresh start and probably alot cleaner and easier to use out of the box. Are you guys working towards having a magazine component ready for 1.5 in the not too distant future or should I start with Joomla 1.0.13?
Also I briefly read some license issues with Joomla but the threads were so long I didn't go over everything so I am wondering if these discussions in anyway affect Ijoomla being that it is a commercial component?
Also I think what would make ijoomla even better is a nicer way to manage article images. There are a few out there, I tried Simple Image Gallery Pro but was unhappy with the layout restrictions and ended up using multithumb which is really good and FREE. I like the watermark features and lightbox effect. I still haven't mastered the functionality of it just yet though, but I think something like that would really help with a magazine as media manager is a bit of a pain.
Other than that I really like the component and hope it continues along with Joomla 1.5 keep up the good work. |

Hi,
I don't have a good answer to that questoin till 1.5 is officially released. That is because of the licenses problems and the fact that it's impossible to code when the product is still in beta. _________________ Merav

Hi Merav,
Thanks for the reply, actually after I posted that I went to your blog page and caught up on alot of the details thanks to that video post.
It will be a shame if Joomla tries to enforce the situation, but they haven't said you can't charge for support yet. That may be a viable solution that members can download the product for free but they must subscribe to support for a once off fee or even a yearly renewal fee.
I think ijoomla is a neccessary component of Joomla and I like how it allows for more control over layouts. Something that really should be adjusted with 1.5. I only tested 1.5 in beta and very briefly. I liked what I saw but then again Joomla is great simply because of it's components, modules and plugins. Without these features standard Joomla is quite limited. It really is just a Framework.
When I initially looked at starting a CMS based website I was also very close to going with Drupal, what put me off though was a lack of extensions and a smaller community than Joomla. However it might be worth taking another look at. It would be a shame though. |

I agree and this is something you should communicate to the Joomla team. _________________ Merav
