It would be good if the main image that will appear on the article page can take a caption.

You could avoid allocating a main image in iJoomla and instead 'embed' a large image at the top of the article when using the Content Items list in Joomla (using mosimage), but there are suble differences in the placement of the main picture and it doesn't look so neat or tidy this way

Yes, already implemented in 2.0. You will be able to hide the edition title and use only images. Wink

This is a very old post regarding version 1...

Captions on images on the front page is not possible at this point without hacking.

The lack of captions on the main issue image is mainly a problem because the reader will assume that the most prominent article text/teaser next to or below it pertains to that image--which is how you have to design your front page--but iJoomla itself does not play along with this--it does not recognize a tie between the issue image and its article by automatically keeping that text in a designated position adjecent to the main image. You have to adjust the ordering yourself to accomplish this.

Is it possible that future versions of iJoomla might accommodate easy substitution of the main image with a module position that could be filled by, for example, an image rotator? There are a number of good slideshow/fader components and modules for "featured article" applications. Integration of such a module with iJoomla might be the best route--which would mean developing an iJoomla featured article slideshow or some kind of cooperation with another developer.

RocketTheme's rokslideshow, Gavick.com's featured content slider, and JoomlaWorks' frontpage slideshow extensions are in my view the best. JoomlaWorks offers several slideshow systems. All are GPL except the frontpage slideshow component, which is probably the best and most advanced of its kind.

OK, I see it is very simple to put a slideshow module into an ijoomla layout--just edit the html and (for example) replace or comment out {EDITION_IMAGE} and insert <php> where "slideshow" is the name of a module position in your template to which you assign a slideshow module on the issue home page using this ijoomla layout.

NB! If you change the ijoomla layout to include a slideshow module, bear in mind that if/when users call up an old issue and view its front page, they will get the slideshow with whatever is currently in it--which would most likely be material from the latest issue. So this is not a good idea if you have more than one magazine in use or want back issues to be viewable with their own individual main image "cover."

To have a functioning slideshow that serves up article images and text from the issue currently being viewed would require development of an integrated slideshow module within iJoomla.
