1  iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: Size of news.css on: August 27, 2008, 01:43:58 PM
its a known issue, i am about to solve my problem by switching to a combo of Latest news modules, a frontpage slideshow and the old core frontpage component.

But you can expect some kind of answer like "Please send a support ticket."

anyhow, try to fine tune the most you can via cache (modules/content/components), gzip, optimaze and avoid images, be careful with the template you choose, and the components you buy  Embarrassed
Regarding NP you can "clean" the huge css file by removing the garbage you dont use (especialy comments) but i recomend you do that only wen you have the NP layout set the way you want.

5  iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: How many Joomla queries are normal when using News Portal? on: July 19, 2008, 04:42:18 AM
news portal must be more optimized or you will hear complains all the time.
I am seriously thinking of remove-it and replace for other solutions like some cool modules that are available free.
I think you already now that there are lots of alternative solutions to have a "news portal" kind of presentation.

The "send us a ticket" or "we'll see what we can do" replies dont tell us what we need to know: if IJ is taking care of this issue or not? If so wen?
6  iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: rss zone and encoding on: July 15, 2008, 08:14:05 AM
dont know if it helps but here it goes:

I had a similar problem with an rss module the solution was this:
Code:
from simplepie.org wiki

i added the lines just before "echo $item->get_title(); ?>" line at 163 and 181

"$feed->set_output_encoding('ISO-8859-9');
$feed->init();
$feed->handle_content_type();"

you colud change the "ISO-..." line for any other language.
the answers are here:

http://simplepie.org/wiki/faq/supported_character_encodings
and
http://simplepie.org/wiki/reference/simplepie/set_output_encoding

this information is relative to joomlaworks.gr rss feed module, i cant still get NP to display rss encoded in utf-8 in my site (encoded in ansi for portuguese language) feeds with the same encoding work fine tough.

thanks

Dont get me Wrong Ricardo.

I like NP and i recomment it werever i can.

I was trying to make some constructive crictics only.

Is it possible to store the CSS in the "core" code so that the CSS generated uses only the atributes that NP needs?

I think you should try to optimize this area more and make more use of the "default" joomla CSS atributes like contentsection, sectiontableheader, readmore, etc to make NP lighter.

The main problem for me is that NP is one of the maincoponents and loads in the front/main page of the site.

tks and sorry the english

Ijoomla should take more attention to this.

The CSS file for news portal has 159k this is too much.

I use a "heavy" template and even that has only 22k

for this kind of component a css file with this size is way to much.

Average css in some other comp:
Fireboard: 15k
Mosets Tree: 16k
Jcal Pro: 16k
Azrul Joomcomment: 10k
Comunity Builder: 11k
My_blog: 5k
10  iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / rss zone and encoding on: May 27, 2008, 04:05:01 AM
My site uses latin1 encoding, if i put a rss zone feeded via a wordpress blog (utf-8) the result has encoding errors, this hapends because of latin characters like ç ã é, etc.

I know its not an NP thing but does anyone now a workround or some kind of fix for this?

Maybee somekind of service that changes encoding of the feed?
Even if i setup feedburner to give the source blog feed the result has the same encoding.

Thanks in advance

Sorry but im prety sure you're wrong.  Sad

In that site http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/

the link you gave:
http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/reviews/bike-reviews/first-look:-2008-bmw-hp2-sport.html

Is "under" a regular section/category blog display, thats why it works.
The newsportal Sef link to a section on that site is something like:

http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/news_portal/Reviews/index.htm.html

and for a category:

http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/news_portal/Sport/British-Superbikes/index.htm.html

and i dont use it on my site because i cant get it to work, i prefer that the users folow the link inside the component that having a submenu that disapears.

You can testit and check if you want:
Just make a menu iten containing the newsportal then assign a newsportal section or category "under it" than tell me if the "hilite" is there. And you can try in any of the best templates makers, thats not a template thing.
