iJoomla News Portal / Pre-Sales Questions / Re: I hate to be a whiner, guys, but...

I dropped this a while ago and I'm glad I did. Moving over to Joomla 1.5 involves a good number of changes that are for the better.
As far as New Portal taking so much time here to get a 1.5 version out, I would venture to guess that much time has been spent on the encryption (ion cube) part for the licensing. Yes I see why you need it, but at the same time you are one of the most expensive Joomla companies and are failing to release components in a timely manner.
It's a neat add-on and I enjoyed it while I had it, but it obviously wasn't something that I could grow with because you guys can't keep up with it.

iJoomla Surveys / Suggestions/Ideas / ReCaptcha included for surveys
|
on: May 14, 2008, 05:03:24 PM
|
I was having problems with surveys getting spammed because I didn't want everyone taking the survey to have to register for my site. I have since found a forms component that uses this captcha plugin and there seems to be a friendly amount of resources offered for those looking to write plugins for systems like Joomla. Here's the link: http://recaptcha.net/resources.htmlIt works extremely well on the other forms and is very user friendly. I would be able to offer the surveys on several other sites if this was included. Right now clients don't want it because spam fills up the results. I'm trying to be proactive.

It's not that iJoomla is unreliable (iJoomla only has an interest in helping you use their product), it's that email and other forms of sending the login information is unreliable.
It's for the same reasons you don't want to send credit card info over email or a non-secure connection, not because you are worried about the store you're purchasing from, but because you are worried about anyone "watching" in between.
Let's say you give admin access to someone for your Joomla site, you can always have a backup of the files and database, wipe it out and re-install if the worst thing happens. That's not necessarily the case with FTP. You could be in for more trouble and more of a hassle getting things back up and running.
Again, my concern is the identitly theft that happens in between the transaction of data. I have no question that iJoomla is perfectly reputable and I've been using their products for over a year now because of that.

iJoomla Surveys / Support Questions / Spam in surveys
|

I've been getting a great deal of spam in my survey results, more than 5 submissions a day and it's not letting up. I've split my survey into multiple pages and now found that the "mandatory" fields are necessarily mandatory. The spammers are only answering the front page and the full survey is still being reported as taken.
I've got a support ticket submitted but they said they need FTP access which I'm not comfortable giving out. That makes a site VERY vulnerable so I didn't think it was rude to request the updated files be sent and I can FTP them over the old ones.
Is this wrong and am I a jerk for asking for this? It is a paid for product with a decent price. I like it for everything else and just need to fix this problem.

iJoomla News Portal / Pre-Sales Questions / Re: News Portal and Templates

Just a suggestion about the Rockettheme mentioned template "Sporticus":
This is a great temlate and Rockettheme is outstanding with advice, very active forum, and very usable temlpates. However, there is a Sporticus News template that is customized to the News Portal and you should know a couple things up front. If you are looking for a template where you don't have to mess with the layout settings and styling of, then this is the one for you. It overrides what's in the styling fields for the News Portal and it can be troublesome to change this.
If you are looking to have complete control over the look and feel, go with the Sporticus or SporticusV2 temlate. All three are great and very similar, but the Sporticus News does override styling.
Just a heads up cause I've seen several posts of people being frustrated trying to use it.
I do highly recommend Rockettheme for a template club if you are shopping around.

iJoomla Surveys / Suggestions/Ideas / Re: Spam survey results

I submitted a support ticket and got the response to have every user register. Unfortunately, we don't want everyone to have to register for the site to take the survey.
This was just left open ended with no solution for now. If you have a survey open to the public, it can get spammed bad.

I'm not sure if anyone else is getting this, but my survey is getting spammed. It seems like it could be a bot too. Any text box was filled in with a website and then random answers were chosen for the other style answers.
Anyway to stop this, or maybe add captcha at the start?

iJoomla Surveys / Support Questions / Re: Remove specific entry

On the Admin Backend, I clicked on "Surveys" then on the "Responses" column and chose my test run and deleted it. It looks like it work.
I could be wrong, but if this is the answer, could an iJoomla expert verify it?
Thanks guys!

I am having the same issue. 16 person's results are shown on the online results while 66 person's results are shown on the CSV file.
In the CSV there are 16 actual responses and the rest are responses with "NO ANSWER" in for all the question responses.

Does "working on the other products" include News Portal? And is there a way ballpark estimate, like 1 month, 1 year, or never for this?
Wondering when to work on a site rebuild.

iJoomla Ad Agency / Pre-Sales Questions / How do ads rotate through?
|
on: February 11, 2008, 10:04:04 AM

Let's say you have 3 advertisers marked for the same space on the front page. How will the ads rotate through. I guess they all need to be on a per click or impressions program? Can you have one show up more often than another if they purchase more impressions?

iJoomla Ad Agency / Pre-Sales Questions / Re: How do the advertiser users work in joomla?

Kind of a similar question:
I don't really have users on my website, I keep it separate from the forum and photo gallery. Is there a way to sign up advertisers where they can login throught the backend and not have to show a login module on the main page?
I will have very limited advertising that I only want to offer to a couple companies, so most of the selling will be done over the phone, but the configuration, set up and maintenance of Ad Agency looks like a great product.
Thanks for the time!

iJoomla Surveys / Pre-Sales Questions / Re: Take survey before allowed to purchase registration?

I guess the main thing is that there is an add to cart button or something simple for the user to purchase the ticket as soon as they are done. It's the whole short attention span thing that websites are always fighting and having to take a survey already hurts. Would the redirect page just go to a content page where I can write a quick few sentences about purchasing the ticket and then have the add to car button? If so, that sounds like what I need.
