iJoomla Redirect / Pre-Sales Questions / Re: Why Is This Better Than A Simple Link
|

But as far as I have understood, outbound links also give value to your site/page in the eyes of Google. So that if you are linking to relevant/similar pages this will increase the PR of your own site/page. Right? And what happens if the spider can“t follow the link to that relevant page?
No, that's the point actually of why Redirect is a good thing. There is more to it than just relevancy and similarity. As I described above the PR of the site you're linking to has a big impact as well. So they can be relevant/similar, but if they aren't discriminate in who/what they link to you can actually hurt yourself much more than any potential PR gain. About the spider not able to follow a link to that relevant page...not sure I understand exactly what you're asking....but making a guess at it: That's the same as what happens with a nofollow tag -- nothing. It doesn't affect your PR because you aren't bleeding PR. The thing to keep in mind is that you -- if you care about your PR (meaning that you are concerned about it, worry about it, want to do things to improve it sort of caring) -- should try as much as possible to control any PR bleeding and should carefully control what outbound links that you do have AND as much as possible control who links to you. One thing that I think that many people just don't get is that you can actually have a higher PR with relatively small number of links...just have few but excellent links. I think that I posted this here somewhere but if you were really wanting to maintain maximum control you could achieve an extremely high PR and have no outside links AT ALL...other than to your own sites which are relevant/similar (e.g., create say, 25 similar sites all with relevant (but at least some content differences). And improving upon even that would be to have each site ONLY outbound to one external but highly ranked site. This is counterintuitive but you can actually make greater gains that way -- and I have for one of my own sites targeted a "prime" external site to link to, who wouldn't agree to links to/from people and I got one after sending emails back and forth about my desire to ONLY link with their site. They gave me the link back. Big jump in stats followed. Actual mileage may vary...but that's the gist of it.

General / General iJoomla Discussions / Re: New Product Idea

I have been thinking about something similar in the past, more for article publishing, but I think what Joomla really needs and missing is a video extension or podcasting...so I think that's next. Thanks for the idea though Hmmmm....now a good podcasting extension would be extremely useful. I know that I'd want it! Thanks Merva!

General / General iJoomla Discussions / Joomla 1.0.13 Urgent Security Issue
|
on: January 04, 2008, 04:00:04 AM
|
If you're a Joomla user and haven't seen this yet, it is urgent that you know about this security issue. I'm not sure why the word is slowly getting out on this but just got a notification email this morning regarding a MAJOR security vulnerability that still impacts v1.0.13. Apparently you risk complete server vulnerability unless you logout from Admin while surfing other sites or executing upgrades of third party extensions. Apparently this one allows the bad guys to add themselves as a new SuperAdmin if you happen upon a site that the hackers have already exploited or setup to create the exploit. I will say that there is still some question about whether this is in fact a valid issue, or even an urgent one as it involves a lot of "ifs" and if you avoid them, no apparent problem. And the best advice is don't surf while logged into Admin, and logout as soon as you can. [Added: Joomla core developers have now confirmed this is valid!] The information can be found here: http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/485676/30/0/threadedAnd more here: http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2008/01/02/joomla-1013-contains-a-csrf-vulnerbility/And here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,248109.0.htmlThe bad news is that this apparently also impacts/impacted the new 1.5 RC4 version but it seems that it has been resolved or is about to be resolved for that and should be fine when the stable version is finally released. And it looks like they have started working the issue and plan on providing a fix for it that may come out in a 1.0.x update.

General / General iJoomla Discussions / Re: So, Now What's Next?
|
on: December 30, 2007, 06:18:27 PM
|
Next: 1. New version of iJoomla Sidebars 2. New version of iJoomla News Portal 3. A new component that we didn't announce yet And...once 1.5 is stable, we start converting all the extensions to 1.5.
All sound great and can't wait! Especially about the new component you haven't announced. Any hints just so that we don't buy something somewhere else not knowing you're about to come out with your own component?

iJoomla Redirect / Support Questions / Re: Installation Question

Hi ChiefGoFor,
Thanks, did it that way and it actually worked. By that I mean that with Mac I've often been unable to upload zipd files for installation and have had problems with it, but it seemed to work for this. So thanks much for the help!
For anyone else down the line trying to figure out the installation and reading this on a search, after the above automatic installation I checked to see where the files ended up. Looks like they belong in public_html/mambots/content .
Regards,
Dan

iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / 3 Column Layout Ver. 2 - Installation Question
|
on: December 22, 2007, 02:26:28 PM
|
I d/l'd the 3 Column Layout Ver. 2 modification from the free downloads area, and in the instructions it says to: Just open the layouts in notepad and copy their content into design->layouts on iJoomla news portal backend. I found the backend area as described above, but the directions kind of leave you hanging with the assumption that you know exactly how to then copy it and where in that Edit Layout (for each page) you're supposed to add it. It seems that there is a table there -- and maybe it's just that I've never played with this part of Joomla before...but am I supposed to past the modification code into that table into an existing area, or add a new area, or something else? Any help or clues appreciated!

iJoomla Redirect / Support Questions / Installation Question
|
on: December 22, 2007, 11:48:16 AM
|
|
Hi, being relatively new to Joomla I've never installed a bot and need to know where the bot_ijoomla_redirect gets installed. I'm assuming that this must be installed using the mambots installer? And if so, where does the file folder need to go/install at? I do see a mambots folder at the public_html level, or does this get installed somewhere in public_html/adminstrator?
Thanks!

iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: Remove powered by ijoomla.com

That should be the correct location -- just checked myself and found the file with no problem. However, that brings up a good question though -- changing that setting doesn't seem to impact whether the linkback is visible or not. Just set mine to "0" and there is no change -- linkback is still there.

iJoomla RSS Feeder / Pre-Sales Questions / RSS -- Did I Blink? It's Here!

Okay, I haven't logged in for, oh nearly 24 hours I think and just noticed that it looks like RSS is now available! I didn't get an email or see anything in the news. Did I just stumble upon this as it was happening? But thanks for getting this out as I have been waiting for this one to be able to get something going on a site I'm setting up!
Added: Ah ha! And 12 minutes after I ordered my RSS the news announcement came out!
