iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: What performance improvements are there in News Portal v1.0?

In debug mode my homepage produces 138 queries, at least 51 of which are directly related to News portal. There are some others which may also be part of NP, but it is not obvious just looking that query (they seem like they could be related).
11 of those queries are INSERTs into "jos_ijoomla_news_items_displayed". Is this a temp table being used to build the page?
I am moving to a new dedicated quad-core server, which should help. But throwing hardware at poorly tuned software is usually not a good longterm solution. Besides upgrading, which I still don't know will improve performance -- are there any generally recognized ways of tuning News Portal to run faster?
Thanks,
Bryan

Can anyone from iJoomla speak to potential speed improvements? I have a site which will launch in about 2 weeks. We make fairly heavy use of News Portal and the speed issue is something of a concern since it does generate a huge number of queries. Has 1.0 been tuned at all or is it just a feature improvement? While the new features a nice, I really only want to bother with an upgrade if the performance is better.
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / New Version...speed improvement?
|
on: April 09, 2008, 10:37:20 AM
|

The new version of News Portal is out, but I have done some customization and I am not going to upgrade right away unless some of the performance issues were addressed. Can anyone comment if this version is faster? Fewer queries? On a typical News Portal page of my site, the NP component runs 40-50 queries and the site is less responsive now as more content has been added.
Has the dev team looked at performance in this release?
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla Search & Archive / Suggestions/Ideas / Remove specific articles from search
|
on: March 27, 2008, 01:04:10 PM

I know that I can configure which Sections and Categories are searched. However, is it possible to tell Search & Archive to ignore certain specific articles, even if that article's category is searched? I am using this in conjunction with News Portal, and I have a few articles in a category that I don't want in the search results, but I want everything else.
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Re: When you speed up the news addon?

Ok, so I am going to be annoying and try to dig further here. The reason is because we are about 4 weeks from site launch using the current News Portal version, and I am trying to figure out if the new version is going to make it out in time (plus time for me to test, etc.)
Thanks, Bryan

Ricardo,
Any chance of a hint as to how soon? I think that News Portal is a bit query heavy in the current version, and I am hoping to see some optimization in the next. For example, my homepage currently has about 130 queries on it. The homepage is the News Portal homepage, and based on the debug info, about half of those queries are coming from News Portal. This seems like a lot to generate 13 links to content. I know there is a lot going on, but I see lots of repeated queries, so I am just wondering if performance is something that is being worked on for the next version.
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla Search & Archive / Support Questions / Not completely removing my mambot from results
|
on: March 03, 2008, 02:42:16 PM
|
|
I have a mambot that I created myself, using another as an example since I am somewhat new to Joomla. The mambot uses an open and close tag, not just a single tag. In my case, I created a mambot that puts a flash audio player into the content page. It is {AudioBox}some stuff here{/AudioBox}. If I put "AudioBox" into the Ignore Mambots field, I get "{some stuff here{/" in my search results. Obviously this is not preferred. I looked at the code, but can't seem to tweak it correctly to suit. Any ideas?
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla News Portal / Support Questions / Section / category descriptions
|
on: February 19, 2008, 07:27:33 PM

Is it possible to display the section and category descriptions in News Portal (as defined in the admin Section and Category Manager)? I would like the short description to appear after the title and before the content.
Thanks, Bryan

iJoomla Search & Archive / Support Questions / Are Core search mambots needed?
|
on: February 13, 2008, 10:22:23 AM

I am using iJoomla Search & Archive and it seems to be working fine.
I am trying to optimize my site by removing unnecessary mambots and I saw the core Joomla search mambots there (Search Content, Search Weblinks, etc.). Does iJoomla Search depend on these at all? Can I remove them without affecting the iJoomla search?
Thanks, Bryan
