Home page performance issue (only homepage)

I´m having issues with the load time for my news portal homepage. Section & category pages load quite well.

The average load time for the home page is over 10 secs.
The average load time for the section & category pages is about 2 secs.

What could be the issue?

Nice Site. I also wanted to point out that even though your section pages load quicker, your homepage loads fairly fast. The reason that your homepage loads more slowly is because on your homepage you have 42 images compared to the 29 of your section pages. Also on your homepage you have embeded a media file which would be my guess for the slower time. But the biggest reason is that your homepages is 3303904 bytes while your section pages are 532254 bytes which makes your homepage 6 times bigger than your section pages.

However, I want to point out that your site still loads quickly for me.

Thanks, glad you like it. I´m currently working on the site so some things are out of place. I tried to remove zone by zone in mi home layout to see the actual changes in loading times and removing the video player does not make a difference that´s why I decided to keep it.

I´m still a little concerned with the loading times, I think 10 secs is too much or I´m I being exagerated?

Your best bet is to go to an online speed test of your site. They will analyze your site and tell you what the biggest parts of your site are. Also if you have gzip compression on, turn it off because that will help also.

Also check out the free component of pagecache. It works wonders on speeding up your site. I use it on mine and I have a picture heavy site.

Hi alvarez,
As smoothdude11 says you can use a cache extension. Anyway, check if your lightthumb mambot is working fine because I detected an issue with this mambot.

OK. The problem was solved. It was indeed related to Lightthumb, the bot was unpublished and I installed a similar one with great results.

Average loading time reduced from 10.4 secs to 0.7 secs !!
