Maybe I am being a little freaked out, but over the past week or so I read something here that one of the iJoomla scripts that have been lucky enough to be converted that the 1.5 vs of the COM did not work with the legacy mode turned on... Is this the case?

Is this the case with 1.5 vs of New Portal?
Given that some MAJOR used COMS out there are not 1.5 yet, like FireBoard I am scared to death that I am waiting to roll my site to 1.5 and I will have waited for nothing because I am going to have to choose New Portal or FireBoard a la...

Please advice...

Hi,
As you can see here, we are working on iJoomla News Portal for J! 1.5. This extension will be works only with Legacy Mode turned OFF.
If you are building a new J! site, I suggest you to use J! 1.5 version and chose only J! 1.5 extensions (native).
Best regards,

So my biggest fear is true. You have asked me (and I am sure many many other users) to choose between you and iJoomla and other just as important, but not as well funded open source products. You are asking me to choose Fireboard or News Portal.

This has to be one of the most short sided choose that you guys could have made, and I am very disappointing. As an owner of News Portal and Mag I feel I have invested a lot in you all. It will take years to get all the great and useful Joomla things over to the 1.5 platform, expectantly those that are community driven, so not supporting LEGACY MODE is a poor biz decision. I would think you would want your products to be able to be installed on as many JOOMLA's as they can, you have cut out MANY MANY MANY J1.5 installs.

I, and I am sure others, are not building new sites, we are migrating out current sites over to J1.5 so we do not get to just cut out a huge part of out site because it is not 1.5...

Sad, very sad.  Sad Sad

I definitely agree with ioo. But then again, I can agree that you will have a better site if you do not use legacy mode because it can cause some problems. HOWEVER, there are so many HUGE components out that do not support Native 1.5 yet. Unless there is some way to use it with legacy mode turned on we will be forced to not use News Portal OR AdAgency, we were planning on using both of them and were only waiting on the release.

The components we need to use legacy mode on are:
AEC (Not to big of a deal to us at least)

Community Builder (Yeah there is 1.2 but it is still not public and is a RC)

jEvents (I guess I could just buy JCalPro but there is extra $)

Fireboard (HUGE but they are suppose to be coming out with a 1.5 native some day)

Seyret (HUGE, the only video system of its kind)

swMenuPro (This might be 1.5 native, my Joomla says the component is but the module for it is not)

This will also widely effect our choices in the future when developing other websites too. If we want to use 1.5 we are pretty much out of luck with iJoomla products...

We didn't have anything to do on how was decided to continue with Joomla! development. Everything started to be complicated when was decided to build a J! 1.5 without native support for thousands of extensions in the market. Legacy Mode isn't a real solution, it is just an attempt of solving what you are saying: to choose between extensions, legacy mode or native, to choose between J! 1.0 and J! 1.5, and so on.

We came up to a situation not for our own decision but because the line of J! development put us there. Back in time, when was started the development of J! 1.5, it was stated that this situation was going to happen, and as you can see, it finally did.

Anyway, is important to clarify that this isn't a commercial decision. We took under consideration a lot of factors and we tried to do what we thought was the best for our customers, which are many and have pretty different needs.

Lamentably we were forced to take some decisions, which weren't necessary when J! 1.5 didn't exist.

We hope you can understand the situation and thank you for your patience.
