hi, i own the magazine component and use it on my sites frontpage. am i able to use the news component on the front page to but in the zone below?

At this point Joomla! accept just one component as a home page. Anyway, there are plugins that allows you to include another component there (ex. http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/kausproject/).
