My site has literally thousands of individual articles and I add about 6 or so articles each day.  Is there anyway i can set a magazine to be dynamically generated from the latest x amount of articles - ie, the magazine page will show the latest articles automatically and i do not have to configure it.

The magazine doesn't work this way, but the news portal does. You may want to consider using that instead.
