I think I have noodled out a problem that has been making me crazy for a couple of months.

The bottom line is that unless you change the permissions on the media folder, the newsletter will not generate an html for an issue. 755 won't cut it. It seems to require a 777 permission on that folder.

I humbly suggest that this info be added to the user manual.

Hi,
Joomla! needs chmod 777 on media folder in order to be installed. So, that settings should be there by default.
Anyway thanks for your feedback. We will have it in mind when updating the manual.
