Some important announcements for iJoomla Ad Agency

iJoomla Ad Agency version 2.0.3 is here

Yes, we heard you. Some of you just hated version 2.0 of iJoomla Ad Agency because we took away some of your favorite features like the ability to allow multi zone selection on packages. The reasons why we made this change and many others were good and solid and had the future of Ad Agency development in mind, but we didn’t realize how important some of these features were for you, so now we’ve put them back, while keeping the new and  better architecture, so we hope that everybody is happy now.

In addition of reviving older features, this new version has a few bug fixes and small enhancements that I hope you will like. You can find the full change log here.

Here’s a video that summarize the main changes:

Stopping development for Joomla 1.5 to focus on 1.6

Now that Joomla 1.6 is officially here, we will no longer be adding new features for the 1.5 version. We will however keep fixing bugs if we find them or if you report them.

Starting from tomorrow, we will be focusing on converting the 1.5 version to 1.6. We estimate it will take a few weeks to complete, so stay tuned.

Ad Agency – Price Goes Up

We’ve been adding new features and powerful improvements to Ad Agency ever since its release, 4 years ago. Those additions have made Ad Agency a very easy and cost-effective way to manage all of your site’s advertising.

But while the cost of producing Ad Agency has risen with each new feature, we’ve kept our price the same. That couldn’t last forever. The price of Ad Agency will rise to $149.99.

But not yet. To give current customers a chance to buy Ad Agency at the old price, we’re delaying that rise for seven days.

Make your purchase now, and you can save $50!

I just wanted to say that I am VERY disappointed in the price change for Ad Agency. That’s a 50% price increase, and it only lasts a year!!!

I’m fortunate, I have the old licensing structure which allows for unlimited upgrades, but for those that are purchasing this product at the higher price, I feel badly for them.

I could see a $25 increase (sort of), or a better subscription plan, but this will drive people away from your company and products and someone will try to find an alternative.

And that’s a shame, too, because your products are solid and your support is usually very responsive and helpful.

But I can assure you, should I need a new license of Ad Agency for another site, or for a client’s site, I will certainly look for other options.

In a perfect world when programming is done for free, we could keep the price as it is, but trust me, it’s NOT free and it’s getting more expensive every year. We won’t be able to stay in business by offering for such low price forever. Do you prefer we run out of business? 🙂

    Hi Merav

I think that it is good that you start taking some more money for the software. This will also give more money to the development of new things for Ad Agency.

Is the increased price for the existing customers also (who have paid)? And if so, when do we have to pay… is to get the coming version for Joomla 1.6?

Keep up the very good work 🙂

    Kind regards,
    Jens

I too would like to know what is the options for existing customers of a 1.5 version with months still to run. My licence started in December 2010.

I think you should consider supporting the devlopment of 1.5 version a while longer. Many of us who have commercial sites which also use many other extensions which are not yet available for Joomla 1.6. Hence we cannot move to 1.6 until ALL these extensions are compliant. I would expect that most main stream extensions will be ported to 1.6 by April.

I use iJoomla News Portal as the core of our site and recently bought AdAgency…. I think you can see my next point coming:-
When will you have iJoomla News Portal as a Joomla1.6 component?
It doesn’t make sense to cease development on one product that delivers ads when the core product is still using the old platform – its like putting the cart before the horse (quite literally)

We have to choose how to use our resources. If we spend them on 1.5 development, we can’t use them for 1.6 development, we are not Microsoft, we don’t have thousands of developers 🙂 if we keep developing for 1.5, it will mean slowing down the 1.6 development. Ad Agency as it is now is very good and stable and now we can start converting it to 1.6 as well as news portal.

Is ther any opportunity for ad agency to work with k2’s featured article (or something similar with yootheme’s zoo component. It would be great to sell featured article placement (Im dealing with developing and product review site.

If you can post a module in the featured article, then you can post an ad agency zone 🙂

Yes I agree with David… I will launch in few weeks a new website made under Joomla 1.5 who use Adagency. The main reason is because many of component and template used are not actually available for Joomla 1.6. Is also because the version 1,5 is much more stable and will be officially supported for again 15 month…so is not necessary to think to upgrade now…

Like always with new software version many bug/vulnerability will be founded and Joomla 1.6 will have many security update probably each month (even maybe more). I consider is better to go with stable and tested version instead use new version. Honnestly the main reason to go with Joomla 1.6 is to use the new ACL feature and nested category. If none of that feature is required why absolutely use 1.6 ?? Is exactly the same with Microsoft Window. If I’m happy with XP why upgrade to Seven ?

I’m disapointed because I need to have a banner management who can be able to place ads in many language (using Joomfish). This feature is actually not available but for what I understand you plan to add it future. So if this addition will be only available for Joomla 1.6 using actually your version for Joomla 1.5 will be useless for me..

I have choose to use some components who is compatible both Joomla 1.5 and 1.6… Maybe you will must consider do the same…

I understand that it’s necessary to charge more… but it’s the combination of the higher cost (as I said, a 50% cost increase) that is valid for only 1 year that I’m having a problem with. In essence, you are now raising the price from $99 per site, unlimited upgrades, to $150 per YEAR… That’s a lot of money, and a ridiculous jump. Maybe if you said, “$150” and then offered a discount (perhaps to $99 per year) for renewals, that wouldn’t be quite so bad. Anyway, you have to make your best business decisions, and I understand that. I just hate to see you price yourself out of the market.

The renew price will NOT be $149, it will be much, much cheaper than that. And since we are comparing to how it used to be, don’t forget you were limited to one domain before and the script was encrypted. Now you are not limited to one domain and the script is open.

Hi, it would be a nice if you could include the ability for a single advert file to be positioned in multiple zones in the Joomla 1.5 version as I have no intention of upgrading to 1.6 any time soon…the current lack of this functionality is an oversight of programming logic but hopefully something easily rectified in AdAgency 2.06 🙂

As a new user of AdAgency, I am counfounded by the comments on pricing. This is one of the most powerful extensions we have experienced, and one of the most well-documented and supported. It would be worth it at TWICE the price! Keep up the GREAT WORK!
